Testimonials - What our families have to say...
"HBLC has helped me to understand who I am and build my confidence"
The children are treated kindly and with respect, their individual needs are met well and teachers are very creative in engaging them in learning. All teachers take a great interest in the development of the children and have lots of time for their ideas. Teaching is fun and play based and the children have an opportunity to shine. We love how open to ideas and flexible the community is and that it takes a common sense approach. We've really valued the clear and containing decision making about how to respond in the Covid 19 crisis. The provision from all teachers has been outstanding in this period and we're so grateful. We really appreciate the stability they have provided to the children in this time, when perhaps no-one is feeling very stable. We love the spirit of tolerance and acceptance that runs through the community.
I like the freedom it gives me to learn what I want.
Kind, gentle, child-led approach. That everyone and their views are respected. Celebration of diversity - rather than merely tolerance. Not caught up in unnecessary, unhelpful and narrow expectations and rules which are a feature of most education institutions. It's a happy, relaxed place where the kids want to come.... and supports a genuine desire for learning.
I like everything: the whole way it is set up and run.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the patience, energy, skills and wisdom you have invested in 'student name' and 'student name'. Hebden Bridge Learning Community has changed our lives. Thank you for being forward-thinking, boundary-pushing mavericks!
Love your approach - in particular, taking a hands-on practical approach which involves moving around and outdoors where possible.
I feel like I’ve been accepted as family.
The enthusiasm. The thoughtfulness. The flexibility and problem solving.
Learning to be in a space with respect for others, freedom to express yourself, encouragement to learn without fear.
It seems a friendly safe space for the children to feel comfortable and relaxed where they can be their true best self and be accepted. I think the children feel respected and valued and comfortable with expressing themselves, its so refreshing. I think the teaching, the topics, the meditation and yoga are just the right mix it's really inspiring and I feel it sets the children up for a very bright future.
I like the way that decisions are democratic.
We like that it’s not like mainstream school. More creative and the children are respected and more free
